A Shopify store concept that tells a heritage story and takes orders in one scroll

A concept study by iVishwa: an online store for a Colombo dodol maker whose recipe goes back to 1944. It has the story, the menu, delivery, gifting and three ways to order, built on a free Shopify theme that we customised until nothing of the original look was left.

The idea

Why we made it

A heritage sweet is hard to sell online. People cannot taste it through a screen, many do not know what a crust dodol is, and gift buyers want to be sure it is fresh and will arrive on time. We wanted to see how much of that a store could answer before anyone has to ask.

What shoppers want to know
  • What does it taste like?
  • Is it halal, vegan and free of preservatives?
  • How soon will it arrive?
  • Is it good enough to give as a gift?
What the store has to do
  • Build trust in the first seconds
  • Explain the two textures of the signature bite
  • Make delivery and ordering obvious
  • Make gifting effortless

What we did

How we built it

The Alan's Crust Dodol home page with slabs of dodol and the headline Feel two tastes in a single bite
01

A first screen that sells the bite

Full-bleed photography, a headline that says it in six words, and two clear actions: shop the menu or order on WhatsApp. A strip of trust badges sits right under it: 100% vegan, halal-certified, non-alcoholic, no preservatives and handmade in Colombo.

02

A menu that works like a shelf

Products sit on a scrollable shelf with sizes and add-to-cart, a gift box up front, and vacuum-sealed options. Everything a shopper compares is visible without opening a page.

03

The story, told as a timeline

A recipe from 1944, a brand born in 2023, and a kitchen that now delivers to your door. The story scrolls as a timeline so heritage becomes a reason to trust the product, not a paragraph to skip.

04

Two textures, explained

An annotated close-up explains the signature bite, a roasted sugar top crust over a soft middle, and the method shows the care behind it: real kithul treacle, slow-cooked and stirred by hand.

05

Delivery answered up front

Same-day delivery within Colombo, next-day island-wide and options for overseas orders, with a map. It answers the first question gift buyers ask before they ask it.

06

Gifting made easy

A dedicated gifting section shows the boxed set, what is inside and how it looks, so someone buying for another person can decide in seconds.

  • WhatsApp, one tap away
  • Delivery apps: Uber Eats and PickMe Food
  • Bank transfer or cash on delivery
07

Three ways to order

Shoppers order the way they like. The store takes orders online, on WhatsApp and through delivery apps, and offers bank transfer or cash on delivery at checkout.
