Apps: blocks and embeds
Apps add to your shop in two ways:
- App blocks sit in a section, where you place them. Most Acanthus sections accept them: add a block and look under Apps. The Apps section gives an app a row of its own.
- App embeds float over the page (chat bubbles, cookie banners, reviews scripts). Turn them on with the App embeds icon in the theme editor's left bar.
My app does not show.
Check its app embed is on, then add its block where you want it. If the app still does not appear, its support team knows its setup best.
I uninstalled an app and something is left behind.
Some apps leave code in theme files. Ask the app's support to remove it, or restore a copy of the theme from before you installed the app.
Add a snippet without editing files
The Custom Liquid section (and the Custom Liquid block in Product information) takes a piece of code, an embed or a script, right in the editor. Nothing in the theme's files changes, so updating the theme stays simple.
If you edit the theme's code
Duplicate the theme first (how) and edit the copy.
Test the copy with Preview, on a phone and a computer.
Publish the copy when it works. Keep the original in your library.
Write down every change: you will need the list when you update the theme, because updates do not carry over code changes.
Support covers the theme as it is shipped. If code has been changed, we may ask you to check the problem on an unedited copy of the theme first. Work by a developer is supported by that developer. See How support works.
