Shopify makes smaller copies of every picture for each screen, so you only need to upload one good file. Upload it large enough for the biggest screen, and Shopify does the rest. Here are the sizes that work best in Acanthus.
Quick reference
| Where it appears | Upload at least | Shape | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hero and full-width banners | 2400 × 1350 px | Landscape 16:9 | Keep faces and products away from the edges |
| Product photos | 2048 × 2048 px | Square, or the same shape for every product | Use one shape across the shop |
| Collection and card images | 1200 × 1500 px | Portrait 4:5 | Cards crop to fill their space |
| Logo | 600 px wide | As drawn | PNG or SVG with a transparent background |
| Logo for dark mode | 600 px wide | As drawn | A light version of the logo |
| Favicon | 512 × 512 px | Square | PNG, kept simple |
| Social sharing image | 1200 × 628 px | Landscape | Set in Theme settings |
Formats
- Photos: JPG or WebP. Shopify serves the best format for each browser automatically.
- Logos and icons: PNG with a transparent background, or SVG.
- Keep files under 5 MB. A larger file is not sharper on screen, it is only slower to upload.
Films
| Where it appears | Size | Length | File |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hero and banner films | 1920 × 1080 px | 6 to 15 seconds, looping | MP4 (H.264), under 20 MB |
| Card films (curved carousel, reels) | 720 × 1280 px portrait | 6 to 10 seconds, looping | MP4, under 5 MB |
| Scroll film | 1920 × 1080 px | 6 to 12 seconds | MP4, under 20 MB, plain backdrop |
Upload films in the setting's video picker; Shopify stores and streams them for you. Films that play on their own are silent, so they should tell their story without sound. See Add a film to your shop.
Why does my picture look blurry?
Almost always because the file is smaller than the space it fills. A 900 px wide picture stretched across a 2560 px screen will look soft. Upload a larger original. If it still looks soft, see Pictures look blurry or cut off.
