New merchants often look for a setting in the theme that actually lives in Shopify, or the other way round. Here is the simple rule: your shop's content lives in the Shopify admin; how it looks lives in the theme. Acanthus takes what you add in the admin and presents it.
In your Shopify admin
| What | Where | Then in the theme |
|---|---|---|
| Products, prices, variants, stock | Products | Product pages and product sections show them |
| Collections | ProductsCollections | Collection pages, rails and grids |
| Menus | Online StoreNavigation | Choose the menu in the Header or Footer section |
| Pages (About, Contact, FAQ) | Online StorePages | Choose a page template for each |
| Blog posts | Online StoreBlog posts | Blog sections and the article page |
| Policies (refunds, shipping, privacy) | SettingsPolicies | Linked in the footer and at checkout |
| Discounts and gift cards | Discounts, ProductsGift cards | Shown in the cart and at checkout |
| Languages and currencies | SettingsLanguages, SettingsMarkets | The country and language pickers |
| Filters on collection pages | The Search & Discovery app | The collection page shows them |
In the theme editor
- The order and choice of sections on each page.
- Words, pictures and films inside sections (headings, banners, quotes).
- Fonts, colors, light and dark mode, buttons and corners, in Theme settings.
- Which menu the header uses, and how it is laid out (mega menu, drawer).
- What the cart does: drawer or page, spend goals, samples and gift wrapping.
If customers see it on many pages (a product, a menu, a policy), it is probably content in the admin. If it is about how something looks or where it sits, it is probably the theme.
Features that need a step in Shopify first
Some Acanthus features show only after something is set up in Shopify, such as filters, pickup availability or color swatches. They are all listed with the steps in Setup in your Shopify admin.
