Acanthus has a light and a dark version of every page. Customers switch between them with a button in the header, and their choice is remembered on their next visit. You decide which one they see first.
Choose the mode customers see first
Open Theme settings > Brand colors.
Set Default color mode to Light or Dark.
Set the palette for each mode below it. See Colors, palettes and color schemes.
The switch in the header
The Header section has Show light and dark mode switch (in Utilities), on by default. It adds a sun and moon button beside the search and cart icons. Turn it off if you want your shop in one mode only; your default mode is then the only one.

A switch in your hero
The Aurora depth hero and the Curved carousel can show a larger switch beside their buttons, in your own words, such as "See the house after dark" and "Back to daylight". Turn on Day and evening switch in the section, then write Label to switch to dark and Label to switch to light. Only the label for the other mode is shown.
Pictures, films and logos for each mode
A picture that looks right on ivory can look harsh on near-black. Most sections that show a picture or a film let you add a second one for dark mode:
| Where | Settings |
|---|---|
| Header logo | Custom header logo image and Dark mode logo image |
| Aurora depth hero slides | Background image and Dark mode image, Video and Dark mode video |
| Curved carousel cards | Card image and Dark mode image, Card video (overrides image) and Dark mode video |
| Scroll film | Film and Dark mode video, Opening frame and Opening frame in dark mode, Closing frame and Closing frame in dark mode |
What changes and what stays
- Changes: backgrounds, text, accents, cards, borders, and any picture or film you gave a dark version.
- Stays: your products' own photos (they show the product as it is), and sections designed to be dark in both modes.
Can I turn dark mode off completely?
Yes. Set Default color mode to Light and turn off Show light and dark mode switch in the Header. Also turn off any hero switch.
Does dark mode follow the customer's phone settings?
The first visit opens in your Default color mode. After a customer uses the switch, their choice is remembered.
Something looks wrong in dark mode.
See Dark mode looks wrong: usually a picture without a dark version, or a color scheme that is too close to the dark background.
